Getting Found on Google: Website and Google Maps for Restaurants and Cafés in Morocco

Published on · 5 min read

Why local search matters for a restaurant

Many customers pick a restaurant on their phone, right when they are hungry, by searching “café near me” or a neighbourhood name. Google then shows a map and a handful of places: being one of them depends mostly on how complete and consistent your details are online.

Step 1: create and complete your Google Business Profile

  • Create the profile for free and get it verified (Google may ask you to confirm it).
  • Choose the right category (for example “Restaurant” or “Café”).
  • Enter your exact address, phone number and opening hours, including closing days.
  • Add real photos: the exterior, the dining room, dishes and your menu.
  • Add your website and menu address.

Step 2: have a website that shows the essentials

A simple site is enough if it answers customers' questions quickly: what you serve, at what price, when you're open, where you are. Show your menu as text on the page rather than as an image, so search engines can read it. Add a WhatsApp button and a link to Google Maps.

Step 3: keep your details identical everywhere

Your name, address and phone number should be written the same way on your Google profile, your website, Instagram and Facebook. Contradictions (an old address, different hours) cost you the trust of search engines and customers alike.

Step 4: look after reviews, photos and languages

  • Reply to reviews, good and bad, politely and quickly.
  • Update photos and hours for holidays and Ramadan.
  • Offer your page in French, Arabic and English to reach local customers and tourists.
